Welcome to Jewish
Sacred Dance with Latifa Berry Kropf
Jewish sacred dance is a form of tefillah (prayer) using
one's whole being-body, heart, mind, and soul. The dances are
participatory and are sources of joy and peace. The ADULT DANCES use
liturgical melodies in Hebrew and English focusing on bringing us into
closer connection to the transcendent and immanent aspects of G*d. To
see some dance clips and the titles of the dances included on my Jewish
Sacred Dance video please click on adult
dances.
The CHILDREN'S DANCES are fun and joyful additions to
holiday celebrations and classroom learning. Many are dances for hagim
including Chanukah, Simchat Torah, Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah. To see
some dance clips and a listing of all the dances please click on
children's dances.
I have also been an educator for thirty five years. One of the
activities I did with the students at my Jewish preschool was to make
challah every Friday. The children loved it, as did the parents who got
to enjoy it for their family Shabbat dinners. I had never seen a book
about challah making for children so my good photographer
friend, Tod Cohen, and I set out to fill in the gap.
"It's Challah Time"
which includes adorable pictures of my preschool children was published
by Kar-Ben in 2002. Since then I have written five more books in that
series and one board book about Rosh Hashanah.
Latifa was recently interviewed on The Book of Life's Podcast.
